Yorba Linda, CA 
Yorba Linda, California, is a prospering city in the northeast portion of Orange County. This community of about 65,000 residents is located about 40 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Yorba Linda is one of the most affluent cities of its size in the United States. Yorba Linda was ranked 21st on a list of the best places to live in U.S. compiled by CNN in 2005. In 1834, Mexican Gov. Jose Figueroa provided a 13,328-acre land grant to Bernardo Yorba. After the Mexican-Amercian War in 1848, the Yorba family was able to retain much of the land. In 1907, a large parcel of the land was purchased by the Janss Investment Company. The developer subsequently subdivided the land and sold it for both manufacturing and agricultural purposes.

In 1910, the initial lemon and orange groves were planted in the area, although the community's population still stood at less than 50 citizens. The first post office opened in 1912, and the Pacific Electric Railway linked the area to Los Angeles, primarily to transport fresh fruit to the city. As recently as 1960, the population barely exceeded 1,000.

Parks and Recreation

Yorba Linda's Black Gold Golf Course has been widely acknowledged as one of southern California's top municipal golf courses. This Arthur Hills design was completed in 2001, and it has been subsequently awarded a coveted 4.5 stars by Golf Digest. The Orange County Register named it as one of the the top three public courses in Orange County.

Attractions and Activities

The Susanna Bixby Bryant Ranch House is a fully restored example of the ranch homes of a century ago. The home, constructed in 1915, can now be toured by the public.

Pres. Richard Nixon was born in Yorba Linda, and the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is now located in the community.
